Spatial Biology in
Neuro-Oncology Grant
Neuro – Oncology
Grant Award 2025
Do you want to join the future of spatial biology assays?
Apply today for the European Association of Neuro-Oncology (EANO) and Standard BioTools™ Spatial Biology in Neuro-Oncology Grant. The two most impactful proposals in neuro-oncology research will be awarded use of Imaging Mass Cytometry™ (IMC™) technology to deeply profile the tumor microenvironment by performing spatially resolved, whole slide, highly multiplexed biomarker analysis.
Grant closes Wednesday, October 1
Researchers use IMC technology to explore the spatial distribution of cell types within the context of a tissue to gain new insights into phenotypes, immune response and disease mechanisms in human or mouse samples. IMC platforms enable high-plex analysis of over 40 markers simultaneously at subcellular resolution. Join other researchers who are taking advantage of the new Hyperion™ XTi Imaging System to capture the intricacies of the tumor microenvironment across millions of cells.
Who can apply
The grant program is open to all researchers worldwide. One of the two grants will be awarded to a current EANO member. If a nonmember is granted the second award, that researcher will receive a one-year EANO membership, paid in full by Standard BioTools.

Program details
- Two grant awardees will provide four FFPE slides each to the Standard BioTools Services Lab (located in Canada)
- The grant includes all the consumables needed to stain four human or mouse FFPE slides with either our human neuro-oncology or mouse neuro-oncology panel kits. Up to three regions of interest of 2 mm x 2 mm using Cell Mode may be acquired per slide. A Preview Mode image will be shared with the awardees to guide ROI selection.
- The panels will also be stained with our unique Maxpar IMC Cell Segmentation Kit to enable accurate cell segmentation
- Standard BioTools will provide the grant awardee with the original MCD files and a final report

Terms and conditions
Publication of project results
All grant submissions are confidential to the individual submitter and will not be published or distributed, provided, however, that Standard BioTools and the EANO may share them with their own staff and distributors who will not disclose to a third party. Applications will be reviewed by representatives of Standard BioTools and by EANO board members. One winner will be a member of the EANO, and if a non-EANO member is selected, they will be offered free of charge an annual membership to join the EANO, which will be paid for in full by Standard BioTools. Upon project completion, the grant winner agrees to participate in at least one of the following activities relating to the specific project, with specific details of the applicable activity to be mutually agreed upon in good faith by Standard BioTools and the winner: webinar, case study, blog post, presentation or poster presentation. The winner agrees that Standard BioTools shall have the right to publicly announce the winner’s name and research title and use anonymized data from the winner's projects in application notes including in marketing materials and seminars. No public display of data will happen without previous written consent from the winner.
Eligibility and requirements
- Applicants must be actively enrolled or employed at a research institution in a capacity in which they perform life science research and have the ability to ship stained samples within 90 days of award notification. Failure to do so will consider the grant to be void.
- Members of the immediate families of Standard BioTools employees and directors, including the members of the panel of judges selecting the winners, and/or persons living in the same household as such persons, are ineligible to participate in this grant program. Applicants must not be government employees or healthcare professionals. Employees of government institutions and healthcare professionals should not be eligible to participate in the program. A healthcare professional is anyone who is: authorized or licensed to provide healthcare services to patients; involved in providing healthcare services to patients (for example, clinical laboratory directors); or involved in the decision to purchase, prescribe, order or recommend medical technologies or related services.
- This program is void where prohibited or otherwise restricted by law
- The grant awardees will have the possibility of staining and acquiring four slides and selecting up to three regions of interest of 2 square millimeters per slide using Cell Mode
- The slides will be stained using a combination of either our human or mouse neuro-oncology panels. The panels will also be stained with the Maxpar IMC Cell Segmentation Kit to enable accurate cell segmentation.
- The staining of the samples will be performed in Standard BioTools Services Lab
- Standard BioTools will give all information regarding shipment of samples to the site of acquisition and the applicants must be capable of sending all necessary information regarding the sample (including digital images of the slide to guide image selection, if required), as required
